‘Tis the Season for Transfers

The latest transfer list from Fox Sports’ Jeff Goodman is up and there are some interesting movements in the world of the Mid-Majors. Editorial Note: We went with the hyphenated Mid-Majors rather than Mid Majors because it seemed to make more sense. Searching for us by Mid Major will work because so many people use the term both ways. Looking at the transfer list, it’s still early on in the season but there are some names that are moving from the High-Majors to Mid-Majors. Among them: 7-0 C Robbie Jackson of Marshall is off to UMBC. Jackson notched 2.4 points and seven minutes per contest for the Thundering Herd in 2007-2008. What We All Should Realize About Fear and Choking

Having watched Belmont take Duke to the brink in the first round, Davidson slay “Goliath” over and over until they ran out of gas in the Elite Eight, and many other true upsets during the NCAA tournament I’ve come to re-assess the differences between the Mid-Majors and High-Majors in college basketball. It was Malcolm Gladwell, author of “Blink” and “Tipping Point,” that took thoughts of “what is poise” and crystalized it into a theory. Gladwell wrote in his essay “The Art of Failure” (The New Yorker Magazine. August 2000) that there is a clear difference between choking and panic.
